Summary: We liked the surrounding area and we came for the fishing, which was great.
Lot's of areas including hike-in and then fish as long as you follow the rules with the wild animals, then you are safe.
We had encounters and some folks are laughing at you when they see you wearing the bells. Tell that to the black female bear with cubs... the bells were quite effective.
When I was searching for a place, I looked for places with wifi because I have a teenager. The place does not have a wifi and I think that should be removed from the details because it is misleading.
Reception around the cabine is not great either so take that into account.
Besides that, the place is nice, including the owners.

Summary: Plenty of space in the unit we stayed in. The place is older but very clean and comfortable. Extra towels available for our group. Plenty of places for fishing nearby and their freezer space was convenient. Will be back in the future.

Summary: Basic accommodations that are perfect for a fish camp, rafting etc. we were a party of 3 and its was good. No complaints. Very basic for just what you need. WIFI only in restaurant is a downside. No TV either so you will be roughing it a little. Restaurant, bar and store all good. Stores are limited and pricey from grocery items… stock up in Anchorage for sure because it’s about 50 miles to a real grocery store. Several restaurants in area so you don’t have to cook if you don’t want to. I would stay here again though. However an Airbnb could be had for less and have all the comforts and technology of home.

Summary: I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Gwin’s Lodge & Roadhouse in Cooper Landing, Alaska! From the moment we arrived, the warm hospitality and rustic charm of this historic lodge made us feel right at home. Nestled at the base of the stunning Kenai Mountains and just steps from the turquoise waters of the Kenai River, the location is unbeatable for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Alaska’s natural beauty.
Our cabin was cozy, clean, and well-equipped with a kitchenette, comfortable beds, and a charming patio offering gorgeous views of the surrounding forest and mountains. The attention to detail in the accommodations made our stay both relaxing and memorable. The on-site restaurant was a highlight—those famous ½ lb. cheeseburgers and smoked salmon chowder lived up to the hype, and the carrot cake was the perfect sweet finish! The staff was incredibly friendly, offering great recommendations for local activities like fishing the nearby Russian River.
Whether you’re an angler chasing world-class salmon or just seeking a peaceful retreat in the heart of the Chugach National Forest, Gwin’s Lodge is the perfect basecamp. The free WiFi and convenient amenities like the tackle shop and ATM were a bonus, making our stay hassle-free. We can’t wait to return to this gem on the Kenai Peninsula for another unforgettable Alaskan adventure! Highly recommend.
